Today I went back to the company's scrapyard/retirement yard.

Yup! I had 3 rows of theses trucks waiting for me to get ''snitches'' removed from them since they are getting sold or scrapped. I said myself, why not take a lot of pictures to share?

Kinja'd!!!

It's missing a mirror, but it still looks great...and it's an International....

Kinja'd!!!

Another one of my favorites! It's really easy to drive and shift in these, but they all getting removed now and it makes me sad.

Kinja'd!!!

This broker had a head on crash with cars that we're stopped in front of him in dense foggy conditions (basically it was too late when he saw the cars to brake) . I can't tell the rest of the details about it since it's still investigated by the NTSB and it's not really clear....but it's definitely not pretty under the cover. They even painted anything that relates to the company mat black to hide it...

Kinja'd!!!

Ever wanted to see a used Cummins ISX exposed with missing parts?

Kinja'd!!!

Now this truck obviously burned, but how bad did it burned you'll tell me? Well look at the rest...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I dont even know if it's a D13 or a D12 anymore...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Am pretty sure the batteries are still usable...

Kinja'd!!!

Take a seat!

Kinja'd!!!

I never knew that the roof (not the deflector) was made of fiberglass. Oh and look there, one front tire.

Kinja'd!!!

And this is my super epic find!!! I don't know what the hell it is...but it's a Peterbilt and it's beautiful!

Tomorrow am going back there again, and I'll take a few more pics. Stay tuned.

I'm not even into big trucks (i'm a huge fan of light trucks), but I could see myself spending a couple days there just looking and poking around, fascinating.

They made those Pete's back in the 80's. They were trying to achieve a more aerodynamic effect for the cab-over. This was when many company's were still running CO's. Did not sell and the conventional took over the market.

Thanks for the details! That's too bad...I would gladly buy one if I was a trucker in the 80's.

It's not that big though. In half a day, you seen it all and sit in all the trucks.

I'm guessing a Chinese dude drove that Eagle?

And no, I've never wondered what a naked ISX looked like. After building oilfield equipment, the first time I saw one painted red and in a truck was odd. I know, I'm weird.

But hey, I now learned that a VN has a 'glass roof, and that Pete does look weird !

I'm sure the previous driver is not even remotely Chinese lol. But that Pete looks so weird that it's attractive...I wonder how it looked brand new.

I really dig that Peterbilt. I wish I could bring it home and make it nice again. My other favorite is that body style of Freightliner. I pretty much grew up in one of those when I would go with my Dad for the summer and travel the country while he was a truck driver.

I wish too man! I love cab overs so much...but you see them only in the hands of truckers that are loaded in my area. You're lucky to have travel in one! I only fix them and drive them to their parking spots :(

I would always ask my dad to pop the massive hood so I could look at the engine on the truck. It was pretty cool being like 8 and seeing an engine bigger than yourself. I need to actually drive a semi truck sans trailer just to experience it.

What is the criteria for removal/scrap? I assume it is milage related. If so, at what point do they get parked?

When the truck is about to hit 1300000-1600000 km (which is nothing for theses trucks after a good engine rebuilt really) they keep it going by keeping the repairs under 2000$. If the repairs exceed 2000$, depending on what it is, they will decide to save it or remove/sell it. Scrap is reserved to trucks that are beyond repair as you can see and are turned into parts truck.

Depending on the company policy and where they source the trucks from, it is generally 3-5 years. Maintenance after that is just throwing money down a hole.

I loved the COE that Freightliner made in the late '90's/ early 2000's, whereas that Pete just doesn't sit well with me. Earlier Pete COE's, absolutely, but not the 372.

It's worth it. When I was a kid, I was wondering why they had so much mirrors everywhere? Are they nuts? Now I know why, and you'll see that each mirrors has its place there lol. Another thing is to know your distances obviously, and that you need to sync everything yourself on a Manual transmission and it's definitely not like a car manual transmission. I'll leave the fun to you hahaha

I have always had a soft spot for COE's. Sure getting to anything on the front of the engine is a pain, and while climbing in isn't that bad, getting out in a big hurry is best done with repelling gear or a parachute- The view while driving is totally worth it.
